I have been in private practice since 2001. For 18 months before this, I was in 'supervised' practice, working with clients with my supervisor Mabel Smith RSHom as I gained my Diploma. This meant I could learn about treating clients in a safe environment with a more experienced Homeopath guiding me along.
I enjoy my work and use Homeopathy myself. My first experience of Homeopathy was with my baby son. He'd had a few attacks of the croup, a childhood breathing disorder rather like asthma. I was in Boots and read a leaflet that explained about Homeopathy and it said it was safe for children and babies to use. The leaflet recommended a 'remedy' called Aconite to help with croup, so I bought a bottle. When I got home, I popped it in the cupboard and forgot about it. A few weeks later, I was woken at about 3am by my baby son, crying and wheezing. I took him downstairs to do what I usually did, which was boil the kettle and fill the room with steam, when I remembered the bottle of Aconite that I had bought. I got it out of the cupboard, took one pill out and crushed it between 2 spoons and put it onto his tongue and waited...less 5 minutes later, his breathing became calmer, he stopped wheezing. 'Wow' I thought 'That worked. WHY?'.....That was it. I went to the library the next day and got every book I could find and read the lot.Then I decided to learn Homeopathy in night-school but it didn't fit with being a single-Mum. In the end I enrolled at a college in London where I would be away only one weekend a month. And that was the start of my journey into the strange and exciting world of Homeopathy. I was a single-Mum with a sick baby and I had no idea if the remedy would work....but it did. So when people say to me 'Homeopathy is just placebo', I know it isn't because I saw with my own eyes how a remedy calmed a severe symptom and returned my son's breathing to normal.

Homeopathy is different from regular medicine.
